RE: AS400 vs Win2k ~Naomi Deskroterakol 2.Jan.04 04:58 PM a Web browser General All ReleasesAll Platforms
Given that you're basically saying you're phasing Domino out, there's no reason to go through what will be an enormous headache in setting up on the iSeries. With 300 app-only users, your hardware requirements will be quite low. Though clustering is a good idea for reliability, you really won't even need multi-processor machines for this. Get a pair of P4 servers with 1GB of RAM each, throw on W2K, cluster them and forget about it. Just make sure all your other W2K services are disabled to minimize Microsoft virus risk, and you'll have a reliable solution in place for a tenth of the cost of the iSeries.
Frankly, I wouldn't recommend the iSeries to anybody, but even if it were the best imaginable platform for Domino, it wouldn't make sense for 300 non-mail users. The cost is just too great.
